Located on the Beagle Channel at the southern tip of the continental Americas, Ushuaia is the site of the former Penal Colony of Tierra del Fuego, a 19th-century prison converted into a major historical landmark. The settlement represents the northernmost end of Route 3 and serves as the starting point for crossings into the Beagle Channel islands.
