The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a sidewalk of terrazzo and brass featuring 2,700 stars embedded in the stars' signature motifs of movie cameras, microphone-in-triple-circle, comedy and tragedy masks, and television. Inaugurated in 1960 to revitalize the area's declining commercial traffic, it stretches along 15.5 blocks on Hollywood Boulevard and six blocks on Vine Street, honoring recipients from five entertainment categories.
