Gwanghwamun, the main gate of Gyeongbokgung (the Great Reception Gate), is a three-story palace structure from the Joseon dynasty (1392–1897) serving as the symbolic entrance to the royal palace. The adjacent Hanjeungdan Plaza hosts the seasonal Seoul Lantern Festival, featuring hundreds of traditional Korean lanterns illuminated to highlight the gate's silhouette against the backdrop of Bukhan Mountain.
